Starting 2020 as you mean to go on
I’m going to let you into a secret. You can actually set yourself goals at any time of the year; it doesn’t have to be the start of a new year. However, the beginning of January is traditionally a time when we sit down, think about the year ahead and set some goals that we want to achieve. Many people will not follow through on these goals. This is because they do not apply sufficient focus to achieve them. They probably don’t remind themselves of what their goals are each and every day. They probably don’t have an accountability check to ensure they follow through on what they wish to achieve. They probably haven’t thought about the steps and actions they are going to need to take to achieve their goals.
Are you normally this person?
Why not try and make sure that this year, 2020, the start of a new decade, is different?
Sometimes the biggest communications challenges are based upon communicating with ourselves. We have to tell ourselves explicitly that something is going to happen, explain how it will happen and constantly remind ourselves of the thing for it to actually happen. Self motivation is one of the most important skills we can learn. If you are self employed then it is perhaps the most vital skill to have. The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. You have to show up before you can achieve anything.
What do you want to achieve this year?
Think about it.
Now, write that goal down.
Is is specific?
Is it measurable?
Is it attainable?
Is it realistic?
Is it timely?
Remind yourself of that goal each and every morning and evening. Let it get into your subconscious. Keep reminding yourself of it and keep acting on it.
We have to communicate effectively with ourselves before we can achieve anything.
Happy new year everyone.
